I Watch Monty Python

I was working on a comic that I am almost finished with, when I decided to pause the episode of Monty Python that I was watching to draw this. I’m aware it is not a perfect likeness of John Cleese, but BY GOD, I enjoyed drawing it! Inking with a brush is my new best friend. I was dip-pen loyal until I realized my hands had been trained enough to handle a lot more than when I started. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES! GRAH! Well, enjoy.

Nostalgia-chip Cookies

When I moved into the apartment I am currently residing in, my mother returned to me a cook book I was given when I was Cicely Jr. It has amazingly fun illustrations in it as well as this wonderful recipe:

I am posting about this because I was reading Apricot’s “About” page and thought, it might be fun to open up a box of nostalgia (even though the page wasn’t really about that, I just thought about it after the fact).  As a writer, Apricot revisits herself by recreating the fresh and free feeling that came from writing for herself. I would imagine that her experience is similar to mine, but instead of words I use drawings. I revisit myself by looking back at images, feelings, flavors, so that I can portray them with my new visual vocabulary.

I might do some more posts that involve looking back. There might be some ideas there.

Thanks Apricot,

Buster

Comic Convention Fun Times: NERDS!

I love nerds! I love dorks! I love geeks! Whatever we wish to call ourselves! People who turn fandoms into a means of creating friendship and good times. I LOVE IT! I love making art for them, I love seeing their art, I love seeing them enjoy art. It’s great. So for this post I am going to share with you some of the awesome people I met at the Con.

taco pal

SOOOOOOO I thought it would be a bad idea to post a picture of a little girl on the internet because I am paranoid like that. Anywho, there is a funny story to this one. I made a crocheted taco magnet a while back and thought, “Hey, why not. Nerds like tacos!” So I put it up for sale at our booth. I still hadn’t sold it by Sunday, so I did what we all did and cut my prices down. I was in the middle of drawing a chicken for Hannah when I noticed that taco pal was in the hands of a little girl who was walking away. I approached her and asked her if she had paid for that…as nicely as I possibly could because I was pretty sure this girl wasn’t demon spawn and trying to rob me of my taco pal. Regardless of my efforts, she looked scared and informed me that she was showing it to her daddy to see if he would buy it for her. I felt awful for having scared the poor thing so I told the man that it was $10 but was willing to go down to $5. He said it was fine and gave me a $10. The good news is, I think I cheered her up a bit when I asked her if I could get her picture with taco pal. As you can see (at least I hope) she was pretty happy about the whole thing. I believe with all my widdle heart that taco pal went to a good home. When I find a picture of taco pal (it’s around here somewhere) I will post it. He has a cute little surprise!

comic con

My friend Kevin took this picture of a clever costumed fellow. Con is all about being clever.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA ???????????????????????????????

This is a mom and her kid rocking the nerd swag! It’s always nice to see a throwback costume. Especially when she is April O’Neil! Also, her kid put a lot of work into that costume!

???????????????????????????????

These two took throwback to a higher level then April O’Neil. The big heads may be a little creepy, but I give them props for rocking it.

???????????????????????????????

Yay for old dude nerds! This group was fantastic! Not only were they a bunch of really awesome characters but they were totally together in it by playing some of DC’s oldies but goodies. That, and I am pretty sure there is a Batman the Brave and the Bold episode featuring them together like this. *squee

???????????????????????????????

Speaking of Batman, these guys did a great job with their Adam West Batman character costumes. THEY LOOK AWESOME! The bomb and Bat-Shark Repellent were a nice touch, don’t you think?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another great bit about Con, video game love is also included! I didn’t get a picture but I think my favorite Legend of Zelda costume group was a couple dressed as Link, Navi (complete with a HEY LISTEN sign), and their corgi dressed as another Link (complete with Hyrule Shield).

Sometimes, at Con, you won’t know what you are looking at. But you sure as hell will be thinking to yourself, “Damn, that looks cool!” If anyone knows what this group went as, please let me know. They deserve the props!

???????????????????????????????

Props are being given…but at the cost of me possibly wetting myself. Let’s just hope his head doesn’t explode.

???????????????????????????????

These two deserve a round of applause for just being adorable together. That being said, Hoggle still creeps me out a little.

???????????????????????????????

SO AWESOME! We got a burning peasant, The Cheat, Strongbad, and TROGDOR THE BURNINATOR all masterfully done! The woman playing Strongbad even got pregnant to create a realistic beer gut for the costume…lol.

toothless

Another one I stole from Kevin. This costume is just AMAZING! And, on top of that, the person even took the time to make a kid happy. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!

There are a couple of pictures I still don’t have my hands on yet because I had to rely on others to take pictures. When I get them I will share them, so yeah, look forward to that. But for now, I hope you can see why Con is so magic-tastic!

Hooray,

Buster

Comic Convention Fun Times: Paranoid Onion Laboratories Booth

Here I am with more content! Hooray!

Alright, I’m gonna share some of the art I did for the con. Let’s do this.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I apologize for poor quality. I finished it while at con so I didn’t get the chance scan it. The story behind this booger is that I did it for Nathan Fillion as a sort of thank you for being awesome. Firefly was the first show my boyfriend and I watched together and I wanted to make something for Mr. Fillion as a token of that memory. I didn’t get to actually give it to him, but I am sure that it got to him.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA???????????????????????????????

These were the only costumes we could muster. Alysia and I are the pokemon (people really like the sweaters. I made them myself….psyduck came out a little derpy but Alysia was a trooper and still wore it). DJ and Ash came as Death and Delirium from Sandman. Good stuff.

Chikeroo these chickens! There is a lady who comes by every year asking for chickens! Her name is Hannah and I can’t seem to find her blog. She is very nice and keeps chickens and is super sweet. Every year she goes to artist’s booths and commissions  chickens. The list is always really fun! The only one I don’t have a picture of is the one DJ did of a chicken mermaid. It’s really pretty. Mine are the ones with the anchors. I wanted to do a lot for her because I really enjoy drawing chickens. My favorite is probably the one of the chicken ascending to heaven. She told us about one of her chickens passing and that she wanted a drawing to remember her by *sniff.

This is an etching I did of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 crew. Fun fact: I did this piece while watching MST3K. I sold it on Sunday to a happy fellow who is also a fan of the show. YAY

2014-06-09_11-02-21_630Finally, we have a key holder that I found at Goodwill. Before I fixed it up it was just a key holder with a flower painted on it. I sanded that sucker down and painted these fellas on it. I thought it was clever. It didn’t sell at the con so I will probably put it up on my Etsy when I get a better picture of it.

Welp, that is all I have for now. I have one more set of con pictures for you. Hopefully I will have time after work tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Buster

More Exciting Things

I’ve got a lot I am looking forward to. Thank goodness it’s all stuff that I can work on while I wait. I have begun the construction of a series of tiny origami boxes that will become the wedding favors, for one. It’s a lot of fun folding them and the boxes are all so pretty. I bought some lovely paper at Hobby Lobby. BLUE AND YELLOW, those are the colors. I love it.

On top of that I have bought the dress that I am going to embellish and transform into my future wedding gown. It’s all so exciting. The design has already been thought of, I’m more-so worried about the execution. But I am sure that is natural. I’ll post a picture next.

Things are going well with 2 Stupid Girls. We started off making heavily edited videos, but have changed to just doing play-throughs. We don’t exactly have the time to do too much to the videos. Though, I must admit, it’s a lot of fun adding silly photos and sound effects to them.

Hope your week goes well. I’ll post the new content,

Buster

How Dinos was

Twas fun!!

We played on noob mode…because well, I am a noob. But it was really fun. And right now JD is demonstrating that you can play as a T-rex and protect your eggs. So fun. Even as a person who is terrible at first-person shooters, I must say this game did a good job at making itself accessible to the average gamer.

Orion: Dino Horde

So my boyfriend got me a new game! We are about to play it. Apparently it’s originally released version was a total flop, but the game came back with a vengeance. It was initially given a super low rating by a whole bunch of folks that I don’t even know about. After some tweaking it’s bumped its way up to a rare and beautiful score. I know it’s lame that I don’t have numbers for you or care to put a link, I don’t have much time til it’s done downloading on my computer and I start playing it. Anyways, it’s only a buck right now on steam and looks really really fun.

Chikeroo it, guys!

Love and llamas,

Sicily

PS if you are good, maybe I will put some screenshots up 😀
